Love Your Body

“Loving your body only when its in perfect shape is like loving your children only when they are well behaved.”

Motherhood comes with stretch marks in every place imaginable, extra and saggy skin, soft squishy boobs from breast-feeding, and a whole slew of other things. We can either chose to be self-conscious about these mom battle wounds or we can chose to embrace, love, and accept them. Before I had children, I didn’t have a stretch mark on my body, my abs were naturally toned, and I had a bubble butt you could bounce a quarter off of. At 24 I got pregnant with twins…my rear end grew bigger than my belly- no joke, my friends and family used to say I was carrying one baby in belly and one in my backside, and boy I had the stretch marks to prove it! Stretch marks covered my thighs and bum and my abs were definitely far from toned!

Fast forward 7 years, I went on to have 4 more children and 4 more pregnancies with just as many changes. And I’ve learned over the years that my body- with all of its “imperfections” (and trust me there are MANY, is still something to be celebrated and that it is beautiful. I still have moments where I feel self-conscious about my saggy skin or my stretch marks but I chose to love and embrace them. I channel my inner goddess and wear my mommy battle wounds proudly. It’s a journey, but its so worth the work. Do some perspective shifting and reclaim your new mom bod….in fact not only should you reclaim it, but also embrace, love, and own it! Trust me…there is nothing sexier than a woman who believes she is beautiful.

It does seem sad to think about only loving our children when they are well behaved so why would we only love our body when they are “in shape” or a certain size? Our bodies are so deserving of being unconditionally loved and accepted by us- always. Motherhood is a badge of honor and there is nothing sexier and powerful than a woman who owns it and realizes she is a total goddess- even with her mom battle wounds.
